Last time I drove a memorable ford was about 6 months ago when I worked at my father-in-laws race shop. There was a slight groan in the front engine cradle of this race mustang with 600+ hp. After I tightened everything back to spec we got it off the lift and I was told to drive it hard to insure the car was without groans.

It was magical. The big 315 meats would grip everywhere and the power was tuned to work with the robust Griggs suspension.

Every ford I had driven before drove like a truck, because they were trucks, big trucks actually. So now every time I look at a mustang I thought "race 'stang" and every time that I saw that blue oval attached to anything else I thought "truck". EVERY. STINKING. TIME. So you can imagine my face when, I take my wife's car for warranty work, and they saddle me up with a loaner. Now if you've read the title you can no doubt guess what car I got. Here is what you can't guess.

Kinja'd!!!

GREEN? GREEN!? GREEN!!

This is a very green car and it's got nothing to hide and assumes you are as cheep and as cheery as it is. There is no shame with this car. There is also no power in this skittle. It's got nice little standard features and the seats are good to. But I was embarrassed to drive it, so embarrassed that I almost didn't notice one thing. It was a fun car to drive. It doesn't shout fun to drive from the inside but it kind of creeps up on you. One minute you are droning on the freeway and the next minute you are laughing uncontrollably down the back roads. What the heck happened?

It's a good car that doesn't expect you to remember what a good car is. Then it kindly reminds you and it is glorious. Now the car still leaves a lot to be desired however the main thing it gives you is perspective. It shows you what a cheap car should be and that you shouldn't settle for less. Also that every car you drive is a chance to grow and to help you mature in your car tastes.

Keep classy and go green.

There was just a discussion about this. I voted more fun to drive slow car fast. The car I loved the most and regret selling is my base 2002 ford focus with the sohc. Had lots of fun and drove it across several 1000+ mile road trips with no problems. Well off to Craig's list to look for a focus.

It's a solid chassis. I have a Mazda 2, which shares platforms and is even a few hundred pounds lighter than the Fiesta. Driving it is so much fun, it's so tossable. A few months ago I rented a V6 Mustang to carve up some canyons in California, and although it accelerated like hell compared to my car, I was actually quite disappointed by it because I thought my 100hp econobox was still more fun in the corners.

Best part of the article "Keep classy and go green"

as a Michigan State University graduate, I believe all articles should end that way!

We have quite different definitions of good seats. I got one of these when my car was in the shop for some warranty work, and I hated the seats in that car. There was 0 bolstering, I'm not expecting recaros or anything, but it would have been nice to have SOME form of support. The car got decent mileage, but I would hate to use it for anything other than a run to the grocery story, because any amount of spirited driving would result in sliding about the cabin. That said, it's a very light and tossable car, I just never could toss it because doing so would result in me flopping into the door or center console.

Our colors are Green and White at Michigan State. One of our "phrases" is GO GREEN! We also will reply with GO WHITE if someone yells GO GREEN at us.

It's entirely possible. It just seemed such a shame to me, the car had definite potential to be a fun little runabout, but when you feel like you are sitting on an easy chair you never feel secure to actually have any fun in it. Honestly, a set of seats even as mildly bolstered as those that are in my Fiance's Mazda 3 would have been perfect.

With budget, pragmatism, and increased urban traffic in mind, I subscribe to the "it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow" mentality. My slow cars are a Honda Fit Sport and 18 yo Prelude SH, both in high reving stick shift form.
